In the Spotlight, Blockstars Concept Art
We sat down with Glenn Kim, Lead Concept Artist for Blockstars, and asked him about his process and how he takes an idea and builds on it until it’s ready to be made for the game. Glenn’s research and attention to detail bring our game world to life. From characters to environments and building designs, Glenn’s ability to connect the real world with fantasy elements creates a visually stunning and relatable experience for players. Here’s an exclusive glimpse into the concept artwork that sets the foundation for the vibrant Blockstars universe!
We asked Glenn where he starts when it’s time for new concepts; here’s what he had to say.
“Every time I’m asked to design something new, I get excited about finding out what we are designing. Whether it’s a character or environment or designing new buildings, or neighborhoods, I always try to do research about the place.”
“Is it a small town or a big town? Where is it? Is it someplace that looks like it could be in America, or is it a city in Europe? I always connect the real world to our virtual world and ground it all in something recognizable and relatable.
This helps the players see the world as we see it, but also adds an element of ‘fantasy’ and connects the fantasy with believability.”
As you can see, this helps focus the concept artwork into a unified vision of what we’ll have in Blockstars as the game launches!
Alpha Testing: Building a Better Game
We recently conducted an internal alpha test of our mobile game client, and we’re thrilled to report that it was a success! This test allowed us to gather valuable feedback from our entire team and identify areas for improvement. In addition to testing gameplay and the core game loop, we prioritized addressing user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design elements to ensure intuitive gameplay.
