We know a lot of people have been asking for this, and we personally have wanted this feature as well, so the ability to name your Blockstars is now officially here!

Introducing… Harry Styles. Formally known as Blockstar #8905.

Why did we add naming?

We believe that being able to name your Blockstars is a critical part of both the gameplay and the relationship that you have with your Blockstars, which is why we decided it was an important enough feature to add into the current roadmap. While we know many people are used to referring to their Blockstars by number (and you can continue to do that), we wanted to give another option of referring to and customizing your Blockstar. This not only can deepen your relationship with your Blockstar (or make it more awkward and uncomfortable when you have to fire them 😬), but it also will play a large part in future features such as Bands, Charts, and Marketplace. For example, having named Blockstars will make it easier to form Bands when you can refer to them by their names rather than a number, and seeing names on the Charts (unless everyone names their Blockstars Harry Styles too) will make it easier to distinguish different Blockstars on the leaderboards!

Hm… what should I name this Blockstar?

How to change your name

Head on over to the Attributes page, also known as the “View Blockstars” page, and you will find a pencil edit icon. Once you click on that, it will take you through the name-change flow, and if your name doesn’t violate our naming restrictions, you should now have a named Blockstar! If your name didn’t go through, there’s a chance it didn’t pass our current naming restrictions.

What current naming restrictions are in place?

While we do want to give as much flexibility in naming your Blockstars as possible, there are a couple of restrictions that we do have in place.

  • Name must be between 1 to 17 characters
  • Name can only include letters (a-z), numbers, spaces, and periods
  • Name cannot include any profanity, offensive terms, or hate speech
  • You can only change your name once every 24 hours

Can two Blockstars share the same name?

Yes.

My future Harry Styles band.

To give a little more context than that extremely detailed response, the Blockstar number is still very important and vital and serves as an identifier, which also allows multiple Blockstars to have the same name. For example, there can be a Prince #25 and a Prince #983 and even a Prince #9362. We also didn’t want to make names a first come, first serve situation that would punish those who discover and join our community at a later time, so allowing Blockstars with the same name ensures that everyone can be Harry Styles!

Enough reading, head on over to test out the new naming feature. We’re excited to see all of the new Blockstar names you all come up with!
